FEBRUARY 12 @ 9 AM - HIKE TO WWII CRASH SITE - MT. TAM $20

In 1944, a Navy patrol bomber crashed into Mt. Tam. Joe Goodman guides you to the site.

In 1944, a Navy patrol bomber crashed into Mt. Tam, creating a huge fireball and killing the entire crew. The airplane wreckage is still there in a lonely grove on Mt. Tam, marked by a “U.S. Government Property” sign, but the crash location does not appear on any maps. As SF Gate writes, “it’s incredibly hard to find.” I have hiked to the location three times, and gotten lost every time. But each time, after getting lost, I found it in the end, and now you can join me, 5th-grade dad, Joe Goodman, in uncovering one of the hidden mysteries of Marin. The hike is 4 miles round trip and typically takes about 2-2.5 hours. It’s moderate to strenuous at times. I’ve led a Cub Scout pack on this hike, so it’s quite safe for both adults and motivated kids, but bring lots of water and energy bars. Because we’ll definitely get lost before we find it. You can read more about the crash site here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean that we have to pay for all community events now?

NO!  Please continue to host events and gatherings for specific target audiences like you always have (ie, shabbat with your class, a Mom’s Night Out with a specific group of Brandeis friends, or gathering 5th grade families at A&W root beer right after pick up on Fridays.)  Count-ME-In parties are extra events designed to build community, while you raise a little money Brandeis Marin.

Can I host a Count-ME- In party but invite specific people?

One of the main goals of the Count-ME-In parties is to build and broaden our community and contacts.  Count-ME-In parties are open to the entire Brandeis parent community to participate in.  If you would like to host a party with a designated invitee list (like all the parents in your grade) PLEASE host it and invite those parents directly outside the purview of Count-ME-In parties.

Where does the Count-ME-In party revenue go?

All revenue collected for Count-ME-In goes to support the most urgent need of the school. The lion’s share of the funds support faculty compensation, technology upgrades, and tuition assistance.

Can I host more than one party?

YES!  Host as many as you’d like.  And we encourage you to attend some too!

Are the costs to host a party tax deductible?

Always consult with your financial advisor. The general answer is yes and you should keep your receipts including the invitation in case the IRS asks for proof. However, if the costs exceed the revenue generated, it may get scrutinized. For more details, read this article.

Are the costs to attend a party deductible?

Yes, you can write off the ticket price minus the real cost of the goods/services you received at the party. You will need to acquire the exact amount of costs from the host.

Will I be asked to participate in the annual Brandeis Fund if I host or attend a party?

Yes!  Count-ME-In Parties do not replace your participation in the Brandeis Fund. Consider the costs of hosting or attending an event to come out of your social budget, not your philanthropic budget.

Consider making a gift right now in support of Brandeis Marin's future.

As a family we have been blessed to help the school remain accessible via the creation of a Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund.  The gift that keeps on giving and a resource that the school can count on now and in the future!
